Healthy, Edmond-area residents, age 16 and older*, are encouraged by Oklahoma Blood Institute (OBI) to donate blood, Friday, Aug. 23, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., at Oklahoma City Abstract & Title Co, 1000 W. 15 St. Area hospitals, including all metro hospitals, rely exclusively on OBI donors to meet their patients’ needs.
Along with free health screenings and Donor Rewards points to redeem at OBI’s online store, each donor will also receive a free T-shirt and two free tickets to the Oklahoma City Zoo.
“With even the most common blood types, we routinely operate with only a three-day supply,” said John Armitage, M.D., Oklahoma Blood Institute president and chief executive. “We wouldn’t feel comfortable doing that with vaccines, sutures or for other medical needs. And we shouldn’t with blood. That’s why regular donation by those who can is so important.”
Donations take about an hour and can be made every 56 days. OBI provides every drop of blood needed by patients in 144 state medical facilities.
Appointments are not required but can be made by calling 877-340-8777 or visiting www.obi.org.
