The "Coyotes” hit the bar-top Wednesday night, just in time for what’s expected to be a busy weekend for Coyote Ugly’s new outpost along the Bricktown Canal.
The "Coyotes” — female bartenders who dance and sing — greeted a capacity crowd for the bar’s opening at 7 p.m. They immediately jumped onto the bar and danced to a mix of classic and hard rock while the crowd cheered them.
"Welcome to Coyote Ugly!” yelled founder Liliana Lovell, who followed up with a couple of curse words and challenge to the crowd to get rowdy.
Joining Lovell was Jacqi Squatriaglia, who co-stars with her in the television series "The Ultimate Coyote Ugly Search.” The pair, along with veteran Coyotes from across the country, will be overseeing the opening through Sunday.
Lovell and Killingsworth said they were both happy and surprised by the "hundreds” of applicants for the bar’s 28 Coyote positions.
"They are very talented girls, and we had a lot more singers than I expected,” Killingsworth said. "I was surprised by that. In Nashville, we expected it, but here, we were amazed.”
Lovell, glancing around the bar just before it opened, didn’t hesitate bragging on what she thinks makes her bars popular.
"These girls are hot,” Lovell said. "It’s so cool because I’ve been listening to the radio announcer upstairs, and he’s been watching the girls come in and they are unbelievably good looking.
