Oklahoma City-area block party provides services to homeless

More than 700 volunteers from Oklahoma City-area churches are to participate in the third annual downtown Block Party for the homeless from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today in the area near City Rescue Mission, 800 W California, and The Refuge, 823 W California.

Homeless individuals and families will be treated to lunch, haircuts, foot and back massages and family portraits with a professional photographer.

Churches offering the day of pampering include all LifeChurch.tv metro-area campuses, Skyline Church, Bridgeway Church and all Oklahoma H20 Church locations.

In addition to the meal and other activities, Greyhound bus vouchers will be provided to people who have been unexpectedly displaced in Oklahoma City and have no funds to get home. Organizers said phone cards will be provided as well.

Artists will painting and drawing scenes from the party to sell at auction to raise money for The Refuge, a ministry bringing churches and individuals together to restore neighborhoods and bring hope to the disenfranchised.
