Midwest City church to hold ‘Blue Christmas' service

A “Blue Christmas” service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Douglas Boulevard United Methodist Church, 208 S Douglas Blvd.

The service is open to all members of the community, whether they belong to the church or not. It is designed as a peaceful service for individuals who may be feeling the blues due to loss, uncertainty, grief or depression.

Candle lighting, readings and music will be offered.

“The Blue Christmas service is intended to help folks celebrate wherever they are at,” the Rev. Jeannie Himes said. “It's OK to not be blissful during the holidays. Everyone has trauma at some time or another, and this service is to say it's OK to have those times and to acknowledge that you don't have to pretend to be happy during the holidays if you're not.”

“The service is a safe place to experience emotions,” she said.
