Oklahoma City area churches plan pet blessing events

Oklahoma City area churches plan to bless animals during events honoring St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals.

With the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi coming up on Oct. 4, several Oklahoma churches are planning Blessing of the Animals activities and events.

The observances are held each year in recognition of St. Francis of Assisi's celebrated love for animals.

He was born in the 12th century and is known as the patron saint of animals and the environment.

Participating churches

The following churches will host Blessing of the Animals events:

• St. Monica Catholic Church, 10 a.m. Saturday, 2001 N Western, Edmond. 359-2700.

• Lord of Life Anglican Church (meeting at Grace Fellowship), 7 p.m. Thursday, 3201 60th Ave. NW, Norman. 761-0909.

• St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 9 a.m. Oct. 6, 1901 NW 18, 528-0485.

• St. Paul's Episcopal Cathedral, 10 a.m. Oct. 6, 127 NW 7. 236-3844.

• Church of the Good Shepherd (Traditional Episcopal), 3 p.m. Oct. 6, and 8 and 10 a.m. Oct. 7, Edmond. 1000 N Broadway, 314-8715.

• Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, 2 p.m. Oct. 7, 2717 W Hefner Road. 751-0755.
