Teacher gets national nod

— Danna Szymanski, a teacher at Summit Middle School, was chosen from more than 500 applicants for the Library of Congress Teaching with Primary Sources Summer Teacher Institute.

During the five-day program, participants work with education specialists and subject matter experts to learn effective practices for using primary sources in the classroom while exploring some of the millions of digitized historical artifacts and documents available on the Library of Congress website.

Alumni seek honorees

— The Del City High School Alumni Hall of Fame is seeking nominations of former Del City High School students based on accomplishments in education, military service, career, public service and involvement with Del City High School and the community.

The inductees will be announced at the Del City High School academic awards assembly Nov. 8.

New date for Night Out

— The city has moved its observance of National Night Out, which traditionally is the second Tuesday in August, to Oct. 1, Norman Police Department Community Relations Officer Jennifer Newell said.

The evening is set aside for residents to lock their houses and get outdoors to meet with neighbors, discuss neighborhood crime-fighting measures and get acquainted with new neighbors.
