Proposed rate hike to be discussed
A public information meeting on an upcoming special election dealing with a proposed sewer rate increase will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Municipal Building's council chambers, 201 W Gray St. Residents will be asked Nov. 12 to authorize an increase in the sewer service rates by an additional $1.10 per month to the base charge and an additional $1.10 per thousand gallons of sewage treated to the sewer use charge, commonly called the commodity rate. The proposed increases would raise the total monthly base charge to $5 and the total average monthly sewer use charge to $2.70 per thousand gallons. If approved, the average Norman resident's bill would increase by $3.74 per month. The meeting will feature a presentation on why the increase is needed, followed by a question-and-answer session.
