Westwood offers golf basics for men

Westwood Golf Course is offering a Men’s Beginners Clinic from 6 to 7:30 p.m. each Tuesday in May. Classes will introduce clubhouse policies and cover fundamental guidelines, course rules and etiquette. Participants will receive instruction in putting, chipping and full swing mechanics. Clubs will be provided, if needed. Instructors will be golf professionals Rick Parish, Bobby Florer, Robert O. Smith, Richard Buchanan and Jerry Halsey. Cost is $80, or $20 per class. Participants get a $10 discount if they pay for all four classes ahead of time. To register, call 292-9700.

Powwow set at Rose State

The Rose State College American Indian Association will hold its third annual Rose State College Contest Powwow from 1 to 11 p.m. Saturday on the campus near Interstate 40 and Hudiburg Drive. Admission is free. Registration begins at 2 p.m. The event will feature gourd dancing, a traditional powwow dinner, grand entry and closing ceremonies as well as American Indian food and crafts.
