Two homicides investigated

Police are investigating two weekend homicides that happened near the state Capitol in northeast Oklahoma City. Investigators don't think the two deaths are related, Sgt. Jennifer Wardlow said Monday. The body of Charles Jasper, 59, was found about 7:30 p.m. Saturday in a vehicle in the Liberty Station apartment complex parking lot, 2700 N Lindsay Ave., police report. About 8:50 p.m. Saturday police found the body of Nash Mitchell, 76, inside his residence, 2204 N Lottie Ave., after a friend asked them to make a welfare check. Both men had signs of trauma consistent with homicide, police said. Their deaths are the 66th and 67th homicides of the year. Anyone with information in either case is asked to call the homicide tip line at 297-1200.

Warrants filed in shooting

Search warrants have been filed for possessions and bodily fluids of a man who told police he accidentally shot his wife while under the influence of synthetic marijuana. Bernard Morris, 57, told officers he was playing with a handgun when it fired, killing Cynthia Morris, 53. Allegations were made by her family members that Morris used social media sites to commit adulterous affairs and recently changed the beneficiary of his wife's life insurance policy, according to the warrant. Bernard Morris was charged earlier this month with first-degree manslaughter.
