An Oklahoma City attorney involved in two high-profile shooting cases has been charged with three federal misdemeanor tax offenses.
Doug Friesen failed to turn over $51,735 in Social Security, Medicare and federal income taxes withheld from employees’ wages in 2007, prosecutors alleged in Oklahoma City federal court.
His defense attorney, Mack Martin, said a former employee embezzled those funds. The attorney said Friesen “paid it all back” before being charged.
Friesen, 62, defended a former Del City police captain at trial last November. Randy Trent Harrison was convicted of first-degree manslaughter for fatally shooting an unarmed fleeing suspect in the back.
Friesen also represented former pharmacist Jerome Ersland in an unsuccessful appeal.
Ersland was convicted in 2011 of first-degree murder for fatally shooting an unarmed robber.
