Oklahoma City Barons: Barons set tone early, beat Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Oklahoma City set the tone early Monday night and notched a 4-2 American Hockey League victory over Charlotte before 3,686 fans at Time Warner Cable Arena.

Josh Green scored just 52 seconds into the game, and although Charlotte rebounded to take a 2-1 lead, the Barons countered with late first-period goals from C.J. Stretch and Mark Arcobello. The Barons' fourth goal came at 10:17 of the second period from Philippe Cornet, he eighth of the season. Oklahoma City finished with 25 shots on goaltender John Muse, who received the start after the Checkers' regular netminder, All-Star Justin Peters, was recalled Monday by the NHL's Carolina Hurricanes.

Oklahoma City (27-21-7) finished the three-game road trip with a 2-1-0 record.

Barons goaltender Niko Hovinen faced just 18 shots, allowing goals to Marc-Andre Gragnani and Bobby Raymond 1:31 apart in the first period.

The Barons return to the Cox Center for a two-game weekend series against the Rockford Ice Hogs, the affiliate of the Chicago Blackhawks. Games Friday and Saturday start at 7 p.m.
