Position analysis: A young but talented group of blue-liners, this unit will excel at moving the puck forward to create rushes into the offensive zone. Many of the eight defensemen in OKC are battling to see who joins the Oilers in Edmonton in the next year or two. Taylor Fedun, Martin Marincin and Brandon Davidson played key roles for the Barons last year during a playoff run to Game 7 of the Western Conference finals. The Oilers really like Klefbom, 20, who played in Sweden's pro league last season. David Musil and Martin Gernat also are talented 20-year-old blue-liners with a chance to someday play in the NHL. Joey Leach has some upside. Brad Hunt provides some experience.
No. 3 BRANDON DAVIDSON
Size: 6-foot-1, 202
Hometown: Lethbridge, AB (Canada)
2012-13 (OKC, AHL; Stockton, ECHL): Sidelined for three months last season while undergoing treatments for testicular cancer, Davidson was a rock down the stretch and the playoffs. He scored 17 points in 37 games.
No. 6 DAVID MUSIL
Size: 6-foot-3, 196
Hometown: Calgary, AB (Canada)
2012-13 (Vancouver, Edmonton, WHL): A star in the WHL last season (31 points in 62 games), Musil skipping Double-A is a sign of his potential.
No. 8 OSCAR KLEFBOM
Size: 6-foot-3, 204
Hometown: Karlstad, Sweden
2012-13 (Farjestads, Sweden): A first-round draft pick in 2011, the 19th overall selection, Klefbom is one of the Oilers' top prospects. One key is how quickly he adapts from European hockey to more physical play and smaller rinks in the AHL.
