The Oklahoma City Barons might be peaking at the right time.

The Barons won for the seventh time in the last nine games Wednesday night, this time beating the Houston Aeros 4-1 before 3,767 fans at Toyota Center.

Oklahoma City (36-24-10) moved into a third-place tie with the Aeros (36-25-10) in the American Hockey League's South Division; both teams are just two standings points behind second-place Charlotte. What's more, the Barons improved their chances of finishing as one of the Western Conference's top eight teams and making the playoffs.

The Barons moved to the No. 5 spot after a game in which Taylor Fedun scored two goals and three other players accounted for two points apiece.

Houston led 1-0 after the first period on Kyle Medvec's sixth goal of the season. It was all Oklahoma City after that as Mark Arcobello and Fedun chased former Barons goaltender Jeff Deslauriers with goals 28 seconds apart in the second period. Fedun scored again with three seconds left in the period, a power-play goal that gave OKC a 3-1 lead.
