Oklahoma City Barons notebook: Rookie Martin Gernat scores Barons' only goal in loss

Rookie defenseman Martin Gernat scored the Barons only goal Saturday night in a 2-1 loss to Charlotte. Gernat has three goals in 27 games with Oklahoma City, all on the current seven-game homestand.

Rookie defenseman Martin Gernat scored the Barons only goal Saturday night in a 2-1 loss to Charlotte. Gernat has three goals in 27 games with Oklahoma City, all on the current seven-game homestand.

“We're starting to see the offensive side to him,” said Barons coach Todd Nelson. “With these young guys it's always a work in progress. They have to learn all the things about going through their first pro season and try to develop some consistency.”

WINTERFEST UNDERWAY

After Saturday's game the Barons kicked off their inaugural WinterFest downtown at the Myriad Gardens, a 24-hour skating festival at the Devon skating rink.

Notable Barons appearances include: Tyler Pitlick (6-7 a.m.); C.J. Stretch (7-8 a.m.); Richard Bachman (9-10 a.m.); Matthew Ford (9-10 a.m.); Taylor Fedun (11 a.m.-noon); Derek Nesbitt (noon-1 p.m.) and Brad Hunt (4-5 p.m.); former OKC Blazers players autograph session (4-5 p.m.)
