Taylor Fedun's mother, father and sister flew in from Edmonton to watch the rookie defenseman. Fedun scored his third goal of the season and added an assist Friday night in the Barons' 4-3 shootout loss to Rockford.

“My sister just moved back to Canada from Australia,” Fedun said. “This is the first opportunity she's had to watch me play here. At the end of the night it would have been nice to have had the two (standings) points for the team, but it's hard not to be happy when you chip in offensively.”

HOVINEN PLAYS WELL

Goaltender Niko Hovinen hasn't posted eye-popping stats since he joined the Barons, but he's been tagged with only one regulation loss in seven starts. Hovinen recorded 34 saves Friday night in a game OKC was outshot 37-15.

“Niko is a big body and uses that big body well,” Fedun said. “Anytime he's in the net we know we'll have a chance to win. Look at this game. To get outshot that badly and be just two seconds away from winning, that's pretty reassuring to have a guy like that between the pipes.”

Edmonton claimed the 6-foot-7 Finland native off waivers in late January and assigned him to OKC.
