A two-game weekend series was the first time Oklahoma City Barons coach Todd Nelson coached against John Anderson, for whom Nelson was an assistant for four seasons.

Nelson was on Anderson's staff with the Chicago Wolves in 2006-07 and 2007-08. When Anderson was named coach of the NHL Atlanta Thrashers (now the Winnipeg Jets), he brought Nelson with him to Atlanta before Nelson landed the Barons job in 2010.

The Wolves won 6-0 Friday night at the Cox Convention Center. The Barons won the rematch 4-2 Saturday night.

“We're pals. Splitting is probably the best-case scenario for both of us,” Nelson said. “I obviously wasn't happy with the way we played (Friday) night but I was really proud of the way our guys responded.”

BACHMAN SUFFERS INJURY

The Edmonton Oilers' goaltending situation became muddled Saturday night when Richard Bachman, who opened the season with the Barons, started his third consecutive game but suffered a groin injury late in the first period.

There were rumblings 33-year-old career NHL backup Jason LaBarbera, who signed a one-year, $1 million deal with Edmonton, might be released. LaBarbera could possibly land in Oklahoma City if he were to clear waivers.
