“We were very successful at home,” Dan Evans said. “I reached my goal weight a month before the finale.”
The key was mostly mental, he said. It was a changed outlook and approach to life. While on the show, contestants eat, sleep and work out. Losing weight is their full-time job.
Returning home, they are confronted with the circumstances that made them become obese in the first place. Eating healthy and working out isn’t magic, but it works when it becomes part of your life, Dan Evans said.
“It really is the quickest way,” he said.
Dan Evans said Police Chief Bill Citty was a big supporter. They were away from their jobs for three months and used leave they’d earned over the years.
The brothers’ appearance on the show also coincided with Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett’s weight-loss initiative that gained national attention when he announced he was putting the city on a diet.
“I’m doing stuff I never would have imagined being involved with,” Dan Evans said. “We are still involved in a lot of events and promoting fitness. We are ambassadors for the show. We’ve been involved with the mayor’s weight-loss initiative. We’re doing great.”
