In 2012, plumbing company owner Markwayne Mullin, a Republican with no political experience, won an eastern Oklahoma congressional district.

Now, a heating and air contractor from Oklahoma City hopes to capture the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Tom Coburn.

Eric McCray, a mechanical contractor for McCray and Sons Heat and Air, said he will run as a Republican in the race.

In a release, McCray said he has an Masters in Business Administration from Oral Roberts University and international business experience.

“As a voting citizen, I am not satisfied with the field of candidates running for the Senate seat,” McCray said.

“We need to move the discussion away from cheap talk about ‘deficit reduction’ towards ‘Debt Elimination’, and I will never vote to increase our national debt. We must balance the budget NOW.”

Rep. James Lankford, R-Oklahoma City, is running for the Senate seat and Oklahoma House Speaker T.W. Shannon, R-Lawton, is expected to enter the race as early as Wednesday.
