An employee at a special-needs day care was arrested on a complaint of abuse by a caretaker in connection with a report that he injured the wrist of a 4-year old girl and slammed her onto the ground.

Police arrested Tracy James White, 48, after officers were called to the Options Unlimited Child Development Center at 1510 N Klein on an assault call just before 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The mother of the child had come to the day care to speak with the center's director about White after her daughter had told her on Tuesday he had twisted her wrist and had driven her into the ground and pinned her down, according to the police report.

The day care had collected written statements from a counselor who saw the incident. The witness said she saw White pull the girl by the wrist and then throw her on the ground. When the child began to struggle, White put his full weight on top of the 40-pound child. Police noted that White is 6 feet tall and weighs more than 200 pounds.

White was taken to the Oklahoma County jail. His bail is set at $10,000.
