Oklahoma City Energy FC defeats Tulsa Athletics in U.S. Open Cup Second Round

Oklahoma City Energy FC defeated the Tulsa Athletics 2-0 in the second round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in Tulsa on Wednesday night at Athletics Stadium.

OKC advances to face Arizona United in the third round on Wednesday, May 28.

David Leichty wasted no time getting the scoring started for Oklahoma City. The forward netted his first goal of the season in the 10th minute.

The match remained 1-0 up until the 69th minute when Pete Caringi III knocked in his second goal of the season for Energy FC. Samir Badr, playing in his first match of the season, earned a shutout for Oklahoma City.

Tulsa was handed two red cards in the match. Dave Leung made a late tackle on Tarek Morad in the 77th minute and Stephen Brock also committed a late foul in the 90th minute.

Oklahoma City Energy FC returns home to face the Richmond Kickers on Friday at 7 p.m. as USL Pro gets back to league action. Richmond defeated RVAFC 7-1 in its second round match in the U.S. Open Cup.

Richmond (3-1-3) currently sits third in the USL Pro standings with 12 points through seven matches. Oklahoma City (2-5-0) is 12th with six standings points.
