Oklahoma City Energy FC signed defender Gareth Evans on Friday and the North Wales, England native is ready for his newest endeavor on the pitch.

Evans took a timeout from watching the new soccer team's open tryouts to sit down with The Oklahoman and talk about the upcoming inaugural season.

Evans, 27, has played soccer on multiple levels including professionally in Europe as well as various minor league organizations in America. He played for the Austin Aztex of the Premier Development Leagues and most recently, Wilmington Hammerheads FC of the United Soccer Leagues Pro division, where Energy FC will compete.

How long have you been in Oklahoma?

I literally got in Wednesday afternoon.

What's your initial reaction of Oklahoma?

I haven't seen much of it. I went for a little drive downtown. It's nice from what I've seen.

You have USL experience. How do you feel you can help the team with that?

The experience helps. USL Pro, it's a difficult league, it's a good standard but travel can be difficult sometimes. I can definitely help with that kind of stuff. I've also played for a new franchise so I kind of now what's involved, sometimes it's not always smooth sailing because it's new for everyone.

When did you come to North America to play?

In 2009. I played for a team called Austin Aztex. That was my first year in North America.
