Oklahoma City Energy FC landed its first home win in franchise history on Saturday night after midfielder, and team captain, Michael Thomas headed in a goal in the 93rd minute to give OKC a 1-0 win over the New York Red Bulls Reserve team.The United Soccer League’s Pro division announced on Tuesday that Thomas has been named Player of the Week for Week 11. Teammate Peabo Doue, who plays defender, was also announced as a member of the USL Pro Team of the Week.
Thomas got position in the box when Christian Duke sent a corner kick his way three minutes into stoppage time. Thomas had missed on two other scoring chances earlier in the match, but connected on the game-winner. Referees blew the final whistle moments after the restart following Thomas’ goal, which was his first of the season.
Duke is on loan from Sporting Kansas City as part of Oklahoma City’s affiliation with the Major League Soccer team. The forward also earned a spot on the Team of the Week as honorable mention. Philip Lund made it four selections for Oklahoma City when the forward also earned honorable mention.
