Oklahoma City Energy FC announced on Friday it has released forward Adnan Gabeljic.

Gabeljic, who Sporting Kansas City selected with their 38th overall pick in the 2014 Major League Soccer SuperDraft, only appeared in two matches for Energy FC this season. The Croatian native only signed with Energy FC on May 1.

“We tried him (Gabeljic) in different ways in our scheme but sometimes the pieces of the puzzle don’t fit,” Energy FC General Manager Jason Hawkins said. “He also had an opportunity to return home to his family in Bosnia and at that point it became a mutual decision.”

Gabeljic came on as a substitute against Orlando City on May 4, playing 27 minutes. He appeared as a sub again on May 10 against Orange County playing 21 minutes. Gabeljic has not dressed for a match since May 10.
