Coon said suitors had approached him about acquiring Coon Engineering several times in the past five years. Huitt-Zollars' offer was the right offer at the right time, he said.

Larry Huitt, a now-retired structural engineer, and Robert Zollars, a civil engineer and company president, founded Huitt-Zollars in 1975.

“Huitt-Zollars is enthusiastic about an expansion into Oklahoma and the opportunity to further engage in the state's economic growth,” Huitt-Zollars said in a news release.

The partnership will establish and expand Huitt-Zollars' presence in central Oklahoma, while Coon clients will directly benefit from the depth and breadth of the combined firms' professionals. The partnership was founded on closely aligned principles that emphasize meeting clients' needs with quality and integrity, according to the statement.
