Oklahoma City entrepreneur's shopping, delivery service is inspired by couch fiasco

Kellye Kamp founded Dallas to your Door, which shops for customers in Dallas and delivers to Oklahoma.

It started with a couch: the perfect, must-have couch. It was discontinued and the last one Kellye Kamp could find was at a Dallas store. Kamp had to have it. But as she hauled the couch into the parking lot, she and her mother discovered they couldn't fit it in the car.

The adventure continued with a borrowed pickup and a long drive back to Oklahoma City in one of the worst lightning-swept thunderstorms she can remember.

“I just kept thinking there has to be a better way,” she said.

There wasn't, so she started one. Kamp founded Dallas to your Door, an Oklahoma City-based company that will shop at Dallas stores not found in Oklahoma and deliver the goods to clients' homes in the Oklahoma City metro area. The cost is $299 plus $2 per piece.

“When they hear about it, they love it,” Kamp said of customers who have used the delivery service.

Orders can be placed on the Dallas to your Door website, where customers can insert a shopping list from a retailer. Deliveries are made within two weeks — usually quicker, Kamp said.

Among her deliveries have been exotic fruit from Whole Foods Market, before the grocer opened its Oklahoma City store. OU/Texas weekend is her busiest because women attending the game like to shop but often don't have the cargo space to bring everything back, she said.

And that must-have couch? It's still the focal point of Kamp's stylish living room.
