Oklahoma City father is released from jail in son's death

Robert Depew, 78, was released from jail pending further investigation into his son's death. The father told Oklahoma City police he shot John Depew, 51, after his son attacked him with a hatchet.

An Oklahoma City man who was jailed in the shooting death of his son was released Monday pending further investigation by police, Oklahoma County District Attorney David Prater said.

“Charges will not be officially declined or completed until the investigation is final,” Prater said.

Robert Depew, 78, was arrested Sunday on a murder complaint in the death of his son, John Depew, 51.

Oklahoma City police responded about 5:30 p.m. Sunday to a shooting call at 408 NW 89 and found John Depew had been fatally shot.

Robert Depew told police he shot his son after the younger man attacked him with a hatchet.
