A woman told police her husband killed one of her dogs before assaulting her at their Oklahoma City home.

James Daniel Carlton, 59, was arrested Wednesday on complaints including animal cruelty and domestic assault after a dispute with the woman at their home in the 1400 block of SE 14 Place, according to a police report.

Police were called to the home about 6:15 p.m. Wednesday and spoke to a woman and a male witness who was there when the fight happened.

The woman told police the witness called her and told her Carlton was yelling and acting aggressively and that one of her dogs had been killed. When the woman arrived home, Carlton told her he choked the dog to death, the report said.

The couple then began arguing and Carlton twice pulled the woman off her bed by her legs, smashed her to the ground, then fled to the attic, where he was found by police, the report said.

Carlton was being held Thursday at the Oklahoma County jail.
