Police say an Oklahoma City man was arrested after beating his girlfriend with a piece of wood after she hit him with a table.

Jerry Eugene Watson Jr., 33, was arrested Friday on complaints of domestic assault and battery with a dangerous weapon after he struck his girlfriend several times with a piece of wood, leaving her unconscious, according to a police report.

When police arrived about 5:35 p.m. at the house in the 1600 block of NE 34, they found Watson's girlfriend lying in the street semiconscious next to a piece of wood, which was broken into three pieces.

Watson said his girlfriend hit him with a table, causing a gash on his lip, because she got mad at him for taking a shower at his other girlfriend's house.

A neighbor told police she saw Watson chase his girlfriend though the front yard before punching and kicking her until she fell to the ground. Watson then picked up the piece of wood and struck her several times, the neighbor said.

Watson was taken to the Oklahoma County jail. His bail is set at $5,000.
