A man accused of biting his 1-year-old daughter on the cheek is facing a felony child abuse charge, court records show.

Jesus A. Escobedo, 22, of Oklahoma City, was charged Tuesday in Oklahoma County District Court with child abuse.

Escobedo, also known as Ramiro Morales, is accused of assaulting the child Feb. 3 while her mother was at work.

According to a probable cause affidavit, the girl had bruises covering her face and two bite marks on her right cheek. She also had bruising on her chest, stomach and buttocks, police reported.

The child's mother told police Escobedo — her boyfriend of three years — told her the toddler fell off a chair, according to the affidavit.

Fearing Escobedo would beat her if she called police, the woman suggested going on a beer run so he would get drunk and pass out. When Escobedo fell asleep, the woman took his cellphone and called police, the affidavit states.

Escobedo is being held in the Oklahoma County jail, with bail set at $10,000, a jailer said.
