Oklahoma City police Sunday morning shot and killed an armed man in his 70s in his home.

About 6:30 a.m., police and emergency medical services responded to the 4300 block of NW 21 Terrace after a woman reported her husband had a gun and was threatening to commit suicide, police Capt. Dexter Nelson said.

The man’s wife told police her husband had been acting strangely the past few days and he had been drinking.

Four police officers entered the home and asked the man to come out. When the man refused, police located him in a back bedroom and saw a gun on a nightstand. Police again asked the man to exit the bedroom with his hands in the air, Nelson said.

The man refused, picked up the gun and pointed it at the officers. Police responded with lethal force and the man was pronounced dead at the scene, Nelson said.

He said he did not know how many shots were fired or how many times the man was hit.

No one else was inside the home at the time of the shooting. No officers were injured, Nelson said.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is investigating.
