The Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon has hired its own weatherman.

Race organizers are getting weather forecasts every 30 minutes from a private weather consulting company in Dallas.

Colin Perry, owner of the Perry Weather Consulting Company, said television meteorologists and the National Weather Service provide forecasts for the general public.

“They are automated by some sort of computer,” he said. “Our forecasts are handcrafted and analyzed by our meteorologists for our clients specific locations. We specialize in high resolution weather forecasting for very localized areas.”

Attendance at a sporting event and the decision whether to delay or cancel it often depends on the weather forecast.

Clients pay Perry, a 2012 graduate of Texas A&M who majored in meteorology and minored in mathematics, for the most detailed weather forecast possible for a specific location.

“It's kind of looking deeper into the forecast for them and providing as much information as we can,” Perry said.

Perry started his consulting company six months ago after working for an agricultural future forecasting company in Chicago.
