Southwestern Oklahoma State University's Department of Chemistry honored its outstanding students during a banquet on the Weatherford campus.
Students who received honors for the 2012-13 academic year included Putnam City North graduates Andrea Fernandez, of Oklahoma City, who was awarded the Neparko Family Scholarship; and John Bui, of Oklahoma City, who was awarded the Cronin Scholarship.
Oklahoma Secretary of Agriculture Jim Reese recognized Parkview Elementary students Mekenzie Edwards and Austin-John Gozum as finalists in the Ag in the Classroom poster contest. Both are fifth-grade students in the Midwest City-Del City School District, instructed by Samantha Lowe.
Each received a medal, $25 from the Oklahoma Beef Council and a citation signed by Sen. Rob Standridge and Rep. Scott Inman. The presentations were made at Oklahoma Agriculture Day at the state Capitol by the Oklahoma Beef Council, state Department of Education and the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry.
Oklahoma Ag in the Classroom is a program of the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry, Oklahoma state Department of Education, and the Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service.
