Thomas Taylor III, 18, of Edmond, has earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He is a member of Troop 346, sponsored by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Edmond.

His Eagle project was organizing volunteers to transcribe handwritten genealogical records for digital use.

Taylor was homeschooled and has attended the University of Central Oklahoma. He competed in high school chess championships and was a first aid instructor at Slippery Falls Boy Scout Ranch.

He left July 24 to serve a two-year mission in Bakersfield, Calif., for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He is the son of Thomas Taylor II and Teri Taylor, both of Edmond.
