Cadet Kolby Tyler Vaverka, son of Brian and Jill Vaverka, of Midwest City, graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y., on May 28. Kolby Vaverka graduated from Midwest City High School in 2007. While at West Point, he concentrated his studies in mechanical engineering with honors. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Infantry and will report to Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, for his first assignment.


John Bernard Giachino, 16, of Edmond, has been awarded the Eagle Scout. He is a member of Venture Crew 2021 chartered by St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. John is the son of Phillip and LaDonna Giachino, and the grandson of Linda and the late John Giachino, of Oklahoma City, and Fred and Joanne Horinek, of Newkirk. His service project was designing and building a large pit for a game called ga-ga at Camp DaKaNi in Oklahoma City for future Boy Scouts of America to enjoy. John will be a junior at Bishop McGuinness High School, where he is a member of the golf team and National Honor Society. He attends St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and participates in Life Teen. He recently visited Peru on a mission trip.
