Luncheon

to benefit playground

The fifth annual Gals, Glitter & Garb women's luncheon is scheduled for noon to 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Robertson Activity Center, 1200 Lakeshore Drive. Doors will open at 11:30 a.m. A lunch of salads, sandwiches and baked potatoes will be provided. A silent auction will feature gift baskets, home decor, bags and purses. Participants can bid on desserts to share with their table or take home. Cost for the luncheon is $10 per person and corporate tables are available. Tickets are $12 the day of the event. Proceeds benefit Yukon's Freedom Trail Playground, a community-built special needs and handicap accessible playground across from Shedeck Elementary. For more information, call 350-8937.

Fishing derby

planned for

kids 5 to 15

Children ages 5 to 15 wanting to learn to fish or who want more practice can attend a fishing derby Aug. 4. Check-in and registration are at 7:30 a.m. at Little River Park, 700 SW 4. Ponds at the park will be stocked with channel catfish. State Department of Wildlife Conservation officials will conduct a fishing clinic at 8 a.m. covering safety, knot-tying, fish identification, fish cleaning and ethics. Participants must attend the clinic to fish and should bring poles and bait. The derby starts at 8:30 a.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
