High school sets Relay for Life

Mustang High School, 901 S Snyder, will host Relay for Life beginning at 7 p.m. Friday. The overnight fundraiser will run from dusk until dawn and is intended to symbolize the journey of a cancer patient. There will be food, games and other activities to build camaraderie. Proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society.

Zoo to celebrate Malee's birthday

The Oklahoma City Zoo will hold a birthday party for Malee the elephant from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday. Malee was born two years ago and has become a popular addition to the zoo's collection. There will be cake and party favors for the first 5,000 guests, along with commemorative birthday elephant ears. Malee was born April 15, 2011, weighing 304 pounds. Today she weighs 1,800 pounds.

Veterans celebration is Saturday

The Veterans Awareness Celebration will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Shawnee Veterans Memorial, Broadway and Highland Avenue. A giant flag will be unfurled at 11 a.m., followed by entertainment and activities inside the Shawnee Senior Center adjacent the memorial. There will be food, an Elvis impersonator and music. The celebration is sponsored by the Chief Petty Officers Association of Oklahoma City and Sooner Sailors.
