The 2012 rankings were released this week.
Harding Charter Preparatory High School topped the list, with Classen School of Advanced Studies at second and Edmond North High School third.
Other top 10 high schools on the list in order of their rankings are: Booker T. Washington in Tulsa; Edmond Memorial High School; Norman High School; Dove Science Academy; Deer Creek High School in Oklahoma County; Norman North High School; and Edmond Santa Fe High School.
The national report reviewed 21,776 public, charter and magnet high schools in the United States, and in Oklahoma awarded 113 with distinction. Those in the top 10 are in the top 5 percent of high schools nationally.
Rankings were tabulated based on schools' student-to-teacher ratios, student proficiency on federally mandated exams in mathematics and reading, and the percentage of students scoring 3 or better on Advanced Placement exams.
Harding Head of School Carole Kelley said she attributes the school's No. 1 ranking to “great teachers and great students.”
Harding is unique in that students may apply to attend no matter where they live in the metro area.
