OKC's jobless rate is among lowest in U.S.
The Oklahoma City metropolitan area had the lowest unemployment of the nation's large metro areas in January, the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics said Friday.
The Oklahoma City area jobless rate was 5.2 percent in January, marking the tenth month in a row as the lowest rate among metropolitan areas of more than 1 million people.
However, the unemployment rate was higher than December, when it was 4.7 percent in the Oklahoma City metro. Tulsa posted a January jobless rate of 5.9 percent, up from 5.3 percent in December, the bureau said. Lawton area unemployment was 6.8 percent, up from 6.3 percent in December.
Across the nation, unemployment rates were lower in 227 of the 372 metropolitan areas. The rates were higher in 124 metro areas and unchanged in 21, the bureau said.
