Man charged in girl's burn

A Choctaw man accused of burning his girlfriend's 12-year-old daughter with a flat iron was charged Tuesday in Oklahoma County District Court with child abuse. The girl told police Richard Frederick Joyce, 42, clamped a flat iron on her arm Sept. 14 to teach her a lesson about leaving it on, a probable cause affidavit said. A school counselor notified police when the girl came into the office for burn treatment. Joyce told police the girl burned herself. The girl and her sister were taken into protective custody. A classmate of the girl told police she witnessed the incident, the affidavit said.

Man denies laser charge

A Midwest City man accused of aiming a laser pointer at the Oklahoma City police helicopter while it was in flight pleaded not guilty Tuesday to a federal charge. Jordan Randall Pratt, 23, was arrested Oct. 24 after the Air One pilot told police a laser was shined through the passenger window at 1,000 feet. A judge set a Dec. 15 trial date. Pratt is charged with aiming the laser pointer beam at an aircraft and at the flight path of an aircraft. He faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. He is free on bond. Dylan Micaiah Crawford, 21, also arrested in the case, was not charged, prosecutors said.
