A man was arrested on a child abuse complaint after police were called to OU Medical Center by medical staff who said the man's son had been excessively paddled.

Randall Allen, 42, was arrested Monday after he and his wife brought their 5-year-old son to the hospital for wetting the bed, authorities said.

Doctors found excessive bruising and swelling on the child's buttocks and called the police.

Police arrived at the hospital about 6 p.m. Monday.

The child told police he was spanked with a paddle because he often gets in trouble.

Police felt the injuries were excessive for the child's age and arrested Allen.

Allen was being held Tuesday at the Oklahoma County jail with his bail set at $10,000.
