A man led police on a high-speed chase early Monday morning in north Oklahoma City after a woman reported being sexually assaulted by the man, authorities said.
Zechariah Maurice Johnson, 34, was arrested after the pursuit on multiple complaints, including rape by instrumentation, forcibly sodomy and possession of a firearm after a felony conviction, Oklahoma City police reported.
Police were sent about 3 a.m. to a rest stop at 12225 N Interstate 35 Service Road. A woman there told officers that a man forced her at gunpoint to perform sexual acts on him in his car.
When the man pulled into the rest stop, the woman was able to escape from the car and ask a clerk to call police, authorities said.
Officers attempted to pull Johnson over shortly after he left the rest stop parking lot, and he sped off. The chase lasted about seven minutes, ending near E Wilshire Boulevard and N Harvey Place, police said.
It is unclear why the woman got into Johnson’s car or if the two knew each other in any way, police said.
Police found a handgun in Johnson’s car after he was taken into custody, officers reported.
Johnson has several criminal convictions dating back to 1999, including larceny of merchandise, possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to sell and concealing stolen property, according to state Correction Department records.
