Oklahoma City police arrest woman found hiding in a closet with her child

Police were called about 6 p.m. Wednesday to a house in the 2400 block of SW 21 by a neighbor who told police he thought a child had been abandoned.

Officers went to the house and saw Mehan look out, but then back away from the door, according to the police report.

Her boyfriend opened the door and invited an officer in. He told the officer Mehan and their son were in the bedroom, the report states.

The officer reported a heavy odor of burned marijuana but saw no signs of the woman or child. He checked in the closet and found Mehan hiding with her 4-year-old son, the report states.

The child told the officer he was locked out of the house and was sleeping on the front porch, according to the report.

Mehan gave the officer a false name, but he later learned her real name and discovered felony county warrants for her arrest on failure to appear for bail forfeiture, failure to appear on forgery, failure to appear on possession of a controlled dangerous substance and failure to appear on possession of a controlled dangerous substance without a prescription.

Mehan was taken to the Oklahoma County jail, where she is being held without bail.

During the booking process, she told officers that she had two ankle monitors but she had cut them off, according to the police report.
