A retired doctor with a history of run-ins with Oklahoma City police was found dead at his home Tuesday night after he called 911 and said he had been attacked.
Deepak Bhasin, 58, was found dead in his home at 15800 San Nicholas Dr. about 7:30 p.m. after police responded to the 911 call, Master Sgt. Gary Knight said. He had injuries consistent with homicide.
There have been no suspects identified in the case.
Bhasin was arrested by Oklahoma City police at least five times on misdemeanor complaints between 1996 and June 2012. He was arrested three times on complaints of public drunkenness — in 1996, 2001 and 2012 — as well as on disorderly conduct and trespassing complaints, according to Oklahoma City police reports.
According to a 2001 police report, Bhasin had threatened to shoot his three children with an assault rifle. The report states that though Bhasin did not own one, his wife has hidden a shotgun from him in their home in Val Verde, near NW 122 and Meridian Avenue. When officers woke Bhasin, he told them that he did not intend to harm himself or his family. Officers advised him to go back to sleep and returned to the front yard to speak with family members, but Bhasin told his family members they needed to leave, and then stepped into the street with a video camera, according to the report.
Officers told him to go back inside, but he refused and was arrested. In addition to being extremely intoxicated, Bhasin was also reportedly taking depression medication, his children told police.
In three of the remaining four reports, officers reported Bhasin appeared to be intoxicated, and he is described as being obstinate or combative.
Bhasin maintained a YouTube channel titled “Stop Police Harassment,” to which he uploaded 14 videos under his own name. The most popular of them — with about 700 views as of Wednesday night — is titled “Police Brutality — Home Depot Parking Lot Police Harassment” and contains a re-enactment of an incident detailed in a December 2011 police report.
