A man was jailed Sunday on driving under the influence and child endangerment complaints after an officer witnessed him crash into a car at a northwest Oklahoma City gas station and attempt to flee, police said.

Police arrested Jermaine Maurice Ellis, 33, about 12:45 a.m. Sunday at 7-Eleven, NW 23 and Portland Avenue, after he told an officer he had consumed about five beers. Two children, ages 2 and 8, were sleeping in the backseat and were released to family members, police said.

Ellis refused to take a breath test. He was booked into the Oklahoma County jail and is free on $12,000 bail.

Ellis was arrested on a DUI charge in Canadian County in 2012, police said

The person driving the other vehicle drove away before police could make contact.
