An attempted car theft led to an Oklahoma City man being shot Wednesday night, police said.

Officers reported that late Wednesday, Randy Vanvalkenburg saw someone breaking into his car in the 4900 block of S Walker Avenue.

When Vanvalkenburg confronted the man, the man pulled a gun and pointed it at the car owner, threatening to shoot.

Vanvalkenburg moved out of the way, and the suspect ran away from the vehicle.

Police said the man then turned around and fired a shot, hitting Jeremy Austin, who was watching the incident.

Austin was taken to OU Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his leg. He was listed Thursday in good condition.

Witnesses described the shooter as a white male, 6-feet, 1-inch tall and 185 pounds.

Police ask anyone with information about the shooter to call Crime Stoppers at 235-7300.
