Oklahoma City Public Schools is looking to fill about 20 substitute cafeteria worker positions before school starts in less than a month.
Substitute cafeteria workers fill in for regular cooks who call in sick or take time off, district spokeswoman Kathleen Kennedy said.
“They know the processes and how to handle food and they go and fill in,” Kennedy said. “There is sometimes an opportunity for those substitutes to become full-time employees.”
The district has about 475 cafeteria employees and 20 substitute workers, according to district data. About 20 additional substitutes are needed.
Substitute cooks start at $7.25 an hour and usually work two to six hours a day. Health benefits are included.
Interviews will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays beginning this Tuesday at the Oklahoma City Public Schools Service Center in the Child Nutrition Service Building No. 3, 2500 NE 30. Appointments are not necessary. Applications are available at www.okcps.org. For more information, call 587-0000.
