Oklahoma City Public Schools proposes time limit on volunteer ban

The Oklahoma City School Board heard a proposal to limit a ban on misdemeanor criminals. The proposal would allow those convicted of certain crimes to volunteer with children again after five years.

• SeeWorth Academy received permission to increase its student body by 40 students.

• A $1.6 million contract was approved with the city of Oklahoma City for 16 police officers to provide security at high schools and middle schools. Two lieutenants also will be provided to supervise the in-school officers. The police department also received a $117,000 contract for crossing guards.

• A $110,000 contract was approved with the Oklahoma County sheriff's department for two school resource officers — one at Rogers Middle School and another at Star Spencer High School.

• Several other contracts were approved, including, Office Depot for office supplies, $750,000; Fuzzell's Business Equipment for toner cartridges, $410,000; EarthGrains Baking Companies for bread, $329,000; and MASSCO Maintenance for paper, $300,000. Marzano Research Laboratory received two contracts totaling $409,500 for professional development at Centennial Middle School and Moon Academy. Sunbeam Family Services received two contracts totaling $261,000 for early child care programs at Emerson Alterative High School.
