RENO, Nev. — Gregorio Petit extended a hitting streak to 12 games and upped his batting average to .307 during the Oklahoma City RedHawks’ 9-4 win late Thursday night over the Reno Aces in Pacific Coast League baseball at Aces Ballpark.
RedHawks manager Tony DeFrancesco put the hot-hitting infielder in the No. 9 hole, and Petit was 3 for 4 with two singles and a triple. Petit drove in a run and scored twice to help Oklahoma City (41-34) win the second of three games in the series.
Petit has three home runs, 12 RBIs and scored seven times during his streak. Since May 29, Petit, a free-agent signee during the offseason the by the Houston Astros, has hit safely in 17 of 18 games.
Austin Wates added three hits and three RBIs on Thursday night for the RedHawks, who went into Friday’s series finale just a half-game behind division leader Omaha. Marc Krauss and Domingo Santana added two RBIs apiece. Enrique Hernandez had two hits and a walk and scored all three times.
After Friday night’s game, Oklahoma City continues its road trip with four games in Tacoma, Wash.
