Four pitchers combined on a four-hit shutout to lead the RedHawks to a 2-0 win over Round Rock Tuesday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
Flamethrower Mike Foltynewicz went the first four innings but left after reaching his 75-pitch limit. Rhiner Cruz, who relieved Foltynewicz, picked up the win. Josh Zeid picked up the save with a 1-2-3 ninth. It was the RedHawks’ first shutout of the season.
Both runs were driven in on Gregorio Petit’s two-run homer with one out after Robbie Grossman walked to lead off the bottom of the first. Petit is riding a 10-game hitting streak.
REDHAWKS SWITCH TO 6-MAN ROTATION
The RedHawks have switched to a six-man pitching rotation: Mike Foltynewicz, Rudy Owens, Jake Buchanan, Nick Tropeano, David Martinez and Bobby Doran.
The Astros prefer to have eight starters at their minor league affiliates, each starter coming out of the bullpen every other time through the rotation, but the RedHawks have scrapped the plan due to injuries and call-ups to Houston.
SUPER FAST GAME
With the two teams combining for only seven hits, the game was played in 2 hours, 7 minutes, one of the fastest games in franchise history.
In the third game of a four-game series Wednesday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, the RedHawks will start right-hander Jake Buchanan (1-2, 5.16 ERA). Round Rock will throw left-hander Ryan Feierabend (3-1, 3.25).
The RedHawks are 5-5 at the Brick but 10-6 on the road... The RedHawks have homered in 23 of their first 26 games. Oklahoma City’s 30 homers as a team are tied with Round Rock for most in the Pacific Coast League.
