Four Iowa pitchers combined to blank Oklahoma City on four hits Monday night, and the Cubs notched a 3-0 Pacific Coast League baseball victory over the RedHawks before 3,882 fans at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
Cubs starter Dan Straily improved to 7-6 after pitching six innings of two-hit baseball. He walked three and struck out four, before Zac Rosscup, Armando Rivero and Blake Parker each pitched an inning of relief.
Iowa (66-58) scored all it needed in the first inning. The Cubs tagged OKC starter Alex White for two runs, including an RBI single from Logan Watkins and run-scoring double from Jorge Soler. The Cubs added a run in the ninth inning on Matt Szczur’s single. Szczur also stole his 27th and 28th bases of the season.
All four Oklahoma City hits were singles. Jonathan Villar reached base twice on walks, but Oklahoma City ended up stranding all six runners.
Oklahoma City (62-62) begins an eight-game road trip in California at 9:05 p.m. Tuesday. First up is Fresno for four games and then Sacramento for four more. The RedHawks will return to OKC for their final regular-season homestand on Aug. 20.
